Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter in their family. When her father passed away as a carnival barker, at the age of an infant, she had to help provide for the family by working as a cook and server. Ruth lived in a slum Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She was a student in Boston. The school she was attending after only two years to pursue a career as an actor. Her path to success turned out be filled with challenges: In New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills for a magazine about crime However, the stage was not a match for her.
